Water Fitness
Provides all the benefits of a great cardiovascular and strength-conditioning workout while protecting the joints from excess strain. These classes are designed to improve joint and muscle flexibility, balance, coordination and strength.
Different types of water fitness are offered at each of the YMCA branches.
- Shallow Water Exercise is held primarily in the shallow end of the swimming pool. Aerobic and strength and conditioning exercises are held in an environment that cushions the joints from impact. Swimming skills are not necessary to participate.
- Deep Water Exercise is held in the deep end of the pool with participants using floatation aids to assist with buoyancy. This is a fun and energetic way to work out. Components of aerobic exercise and strength and conditioning are included.
- Arthritis Water Exercise programs designed for people with arthritis and related conditions or with decreased mobility.
