The YMCA OF GREATER OKLAHOMA CITY was chosen as one of the first Ys in the country to help launch TOGETHERHOOD®, a member led community service program. With TOGETHERHOOD®, we invite Y members to activate their social responsibility by providing them with with fun, convenient and rewarding ways to give back and support their neighbors. Through TOGETHERHOOD®, members lead and participate in volunteer service projects that benefit the community where they live.
The program is run through individual Y branches as a partnership between a committee of members and a Y staff advisor. It is designed to be a simple, fun and rewarding way for members to identify ways that they can give back and support their neighbors through their own ideas, skills and energy with the support of the Y. Hands on Day of Service
On July 26, 2015 YMCA members and community volunteers worked together in a volunteer led community service project at Divine Worship Center to repair and spruce up their children’s care rooms.
Included in the repairs was the expansion of a room to provide additional space, hanging drywall, painting and cleaning.
The volunteer group also planted a vegetable garden to encourage healthy living among the Divine Wisdom community.
Family Safety Day
On Saturday, June 14, 2014 the MIDWEST CITY Y held a free Family Safety Day. The Midwest City Police Department conducted free fingerprinting for children, and the Midwest City Fire Department educated families on fire safety andpoison control.
Kids learned about bicycle safety, enjoyed healthy snacks and played on an inflatable bounce house. The ONIE Project was on site to provide healthy snacks and provide nutrition information.
Volunteers at the MIDWEST CITY YMCA created Christmas cards and then delivered them to the local nursing home nearby (with some added caroling).
On Sunday April 12, 2015 the Earlywine Park YMCA teamed up with OKC Beautiful for LitterBlitz. We had about 40 volunteers from local schools, churches and our youth membership.
Together we collected over 20 trash bags! We had kids participate in their first volunteer experience, volunteers on scooters and friends looking for something fun to do together. It was a very successful event and I want to say thank you to all of those who came out to help make our park more beautiful!
On Saturday, October 17, 2015, a garage sale was held at the MIDWEST CITY YMCA using donations that were collected during September and October.
