YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City

Our History

The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City was formed in May of 1889, three weeks after the Oklahoma Land Run. In those days, the Y’s purpose was to provide a source of strength and positive influence for young men who had traveled far from their families to make a new life for themselves.

Today, we provide programs, services and solutions to address our communities’ most critical issues and have expanded to 14 branches, two program centers, 25 community-based program sites and an overnight camp. Financial assistance, feeding programs, teaching kids to swim, teen leadership programs, providing before and after school care and offering fitness centers with state-of-the-art equipment and group exercise classes are just a some of the ways the Y provides for the community.
