Swim Lessons (6 - 12yrs)

Classes are 40 minutes in length.

Stages 1-3 include swim basics curriculum in which students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skill sets:

  1. Swim, float, swim sequencing (front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide) and exiting the pool
  2. Jump, push, turn, grab

Stages 4-6 include swim strokes curriculum where students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Aqua Club will utilize curriculum from the YMCA Swim Lessons Recreation Pathway: Endurance, Sports, and Games. Through each class, swimmers will work on the following: enhancing swimming skills and endurance, developing knowledge in various aquatics skills and sports, and increasing endurance in the major competitive strokes

Prerequisite skills:

  • experience in swim lesson programming strongly encouraged

This class option is for E-Camp participants only. Please make sure you are registering your child for the correct days, based on their A/B schedule. Swim lesson days should match the days they are at the YMCA.

Stage 4: Stroke Introduction

Students in Stage 4 develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl, and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Prerequisite skills:

  • Swim unassisted 10-15 yards on front and back
