A. YMCA Thunder 2K Basketball League (All Ages)
Building on their successful partnership, Oklahoma YMCAs and the Oklahoma City Thunder are taking things off the hardwood and onto the screen with the launch of the YMCA Thunder 2K Basketball League.
Participants will have the option to play NBA2K21 from their home platform or join other players at the University of Central Oklahoma CO-OP Esports Gaming Arena in Edmond.
Games will be played on gaming PC’s, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and participants are responsible for purchasing NBA 2K21.
The league is available for youth ages 7 to 17 years and participants will compete against each other in a supervised setting.
League play is January 16 to March 13, 2021 and includes eight games, an end of season tournament and a YMCA Thunder 2K Basketball League jersey.
In person competition will happen primarily on gaming PC’s. Anyone playing in person on a PC will need a Steam account with a NBA2K21 license on their Steam account. There will be a limited number of PS4 and Xbox One spaces available for in person gameplay at the UCO CO-OP.
In person gaming will take place on Saturday Mornings. Those playing from home will be able to play games at different days and times to fit their schedule.
The CO-OP is located on the UCO Campus in Edmond. The 5,703-square-foot space houses more than 48 high-end PC gaming stations featuring high-fidelity visuals and equipped with RTX 2080 graphic cards for consistently high frames per second (FPS), two virtual reality booths, five Nintendo Switch consoles and a growing library of popular board and tabletop games.
The YMCA and the University of Central Oklahoma CO-OP Esports Gaming Arena follow CDC guidelines for cleaning, disinfecting and social distancing. To ensure the safety of participants, in person gaming at the Arena will be limited.
